If you loved Dee’s Mighty Cookbook and wished for more, this is what you were wishing for. Plan-D contains a more thorough presentation of the contents of Dee’s extensive knowledge on nutrition, her healthy eating plan for a healthy lifestyle and weight loss as well as 40 new recipes.
I highly recommend this way of eating. You will be amazed at how satisfied you are and how great you feel. HOWEVER, be aware this diet is for folks who either have time and/or love to cook, because you will have to take time to do more food prep. In today’s rushed world, many will find this lifestyle out of reach. For those that want to eat healthy and need a more simple plan, I recommendJoy’s LIFE Diet: Four Steps to Thin Forever. Dee’s plan includes a lot more healthy fats and is more satisfying, but may be out of reach timewise for the average American household.
My one disappointment with the book, is that Dee finally explains how she has been influenced by psychic Edgar Cayce. I did some research on him and while he may have come up with some healthy guidelines, he also is considered the Father of the New Age movement by many. Some of his (and thus) her dietary restrictions are based on his “revelations,” rather than scientific evidence, hence she nixes pork. So do read the book carefully. Take and apply what is based on science and don’t get drawn into the religious aspect.
EVERYONE should read this book! It is aimed first at compulsive eaters wanting to break their cycle of obesity and litany of diseases but it can benefit anyone who cares about what goes into his/her body. I am all pumped up and hope that I can apply most of the concepts mentioned in the book.
One thing that would be useful: how can we apply this anti-diet to children? If you have a family and cook for different ages, growth stages, and nutritional needs, how do you do it? Maybe a follow-up book on feeding children and teenagers would be appropriate. It is a known fact that addictions that start early are also the ones that are the hardest to break from. Can we help children before they become unhealthy adults? I think Plan-D can do it!
Anyone, any study, any article can make statements about the safety of foods. Therefore, we need scientific evidence from someone who can explain things in layman’s terms. Dee is a chemist. She will teach you exactly how foods are made and why certain foods like genetically modified foods or high fructose corn syrup are bad for us. There is a conspiracy out there that the FDA, Dept of Agriculture, EPA, even the AMA do not want us to know about: that the effects of certain chemicals and substances in nearly 70% of our foods today are either bad for us, or the effects are not yet known. Don’t be a government lab rat. Take control of your life and eating habits. This book provides objective scientific evidence into the relationship of food and chronic illnesses. As a byproduct, weight loss will occur. There’s a reason why we feel so hungry on weight watchers. Read the book.
I personally didn’t need to loose weight. I wish the book was actually titled differently. This was about getting rid of chronic ailments in my life. Acquiring chronic ailments like asthma, hypothyroidism, ADD all in my late thirties was too coincidental for me. I knew there was a cause and with a lot of research, I came across this book, and others, written by people with no connection to big corporations or government departments. There’s no ulterior motive here besides sending out objective, scientific, yet provocative information for us. The book will change your life. Never learned about high fructose corn syrup. Never
thought about the different types of cooking oils or where they came from, never knew about the history of cheap food processing procedures and chemicals with the FDA. Our health suffers at the expense of big business and government every day. Get informed and vote with your food purchases.

Just to begin…I have a library of books on nutrition and health, on the obesity crisis in America, including long tomes like Dr. Weston Price’s book on nutrition and physical degeneration and Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions (both excellent btw)… I could go on and on! But this is the only book that answers ALL of my questions about what to eat for good health and WHY, whilst piecing together the information that is found in a hundred different books all into this one perfect book.
I came across this book on someone’s website and decided to order it from Amazon, it sounded good to me, but then again, every book on healthy living does. I was so pleasantly surprised when I got this, I could literally not put it down! Dee McCaffrey confirmed all my beliefs on what we should be eating (she is a chemist) and went on to answer WHY…here’s an example: do you think canola oil is a “healthy” oil to cook with? If yes, why? Clever marketing is why (have you ever heard of the “canola” plant?) Dee explains the chemistry behind fake foods such as canola oil and why they are harmful to our bodies and why they are making us FAT. She explains that food additives are killing us, that “diet” anything is poison, that the way we should be eating is whole, natural foods like fruits and vegetables. (Yes, supposedly we all *know* that, but do we know why the other stuff is so bad for us? what it does to our bodies in the long run?)
If you have any interest in health, nutrition, and why America is so fat these days (thanks Kraft and ConAgra!) I would look to Dee’s book. She includes recipes in the back too and guidelines on how to stay on track when eating out or at other’s homes. Some might be a little wary of her mentioning Edgar Cayce a few times, but overall, there is excellent content in this book, a light will go on in your head when you realize how you have been duped by food companies into thinking you are being “healthy” when you are eating their processed garbage. Oh and yes, Dee lost 102 lbs. eating this way and has kept it off for years.
Dee has given us much more detail in this book about the science behind her program. I haven’t read it all the way through yet, but I have her first book and can vouch for the fact that her recipes are truly spectacular. They are not health food that is tasteless and boring, but rather wonderful dishes I love to eat. And,it’s great to know they are good for one as well. This book will be a great addition for those of us recognizing the wisdom in eating in a truly healthful way.
