If you’re looking to save some calories for dieting (as I am on WW) or just want to use a better quality oil than the spray propellants have in them that you find in the supermarkets, this is a useful item. B/c this is EVOO, the best use is for spraying directly on foods to be immediately eaten–side dishes that you’d normally put butter on, grilled and sauteed veggies, grilled bread for brushcetta, garlic bread, salads, etc..heating a pan with EVOO is not advisable b/c it has a low smoking point. For these purposes, this EVOO oil mister comes in handy to get the taste you want yet can be easily regulated to save calories.
A long time ago my wife and I bought a non-propellant pump-style metal olive oil sprayer from a local housewares store and basically didn’t like it because it didn’t produce an even spray and the can got all oily on the outside. I was afraid this Gourme Mist would be the same, but it isn’t. It sprays a fine mist very nicely. So the product fills its purpose very well. My only complaint is that I wish I could refill the jar with my own olive oil when it runs out so I don’t have to buy these at a price relatively much higher than the price of the oil. But of course, then the manufacturer wouldn’t be making money every time.
I have been using this product for several weeks now and find its uses to be near endless. Whether for spraying a thin coat of oil in the pan for cooking or in combination with the vinegar for homemade salads, this allows me to have a great tasting meal without any waste.
